It’s no secret that here at RnR Hot Tubs and Spas, we love covana hot tub covers. Covana is a beautiful hot tub cover that offers exception energy efficiency and is easy to use. The roof lifts automatically at the turn of a key and keeps glaring sun out of your eyes or protects you from rain or snow. The easy-to-use blinds provide protection from cold breezes or the gaze of your neighbours. And that’s just the beginning of what makes covana great. But part of having a wonderful spa cover is performing basic maintenance to keep it in perfect condition for years to come.

Close the Covana all the Way.

When the covana is not in use (and especially during the winter), it’s important to close your covana all the way and double check the rubber seals are in their proper position. When the spa cover isn’t closed properly, it won’t effectively seal in heat and moisture. Not only will this make your spa less energy efficient, but it also means water, frost, and snow can infiltrate the posts. As long as the covana is properly closed, the protective rubber seals will keep the posts safe from any moisture damage. For Canadian hot tub owners, adding a little sealant every autumn on the rubber seals will help your covana work perfectly in our northern climate for years.

Defrosting.

If your teen or friend doesn’t double check that the covana is all the way down and the rubber seals are in the right spot, there is a fairly easy fix to safely melt away the ice, frost, or snow that’s collected on the posts. You won’t want to use hot water, instead, lift the covana around ten centimeters (three to five inches) and pour in a generous amount of wood alcohol. This will defrost the posts without causing any damage to your covana.

Remember the Protective Cap.

A lot of maintenance is just remembering to do the little things. Things like remembering to put the protective cap back in place over the keylock. Without the cap, the keylock can be vulnerable to freezing rain and hail damage.

Cleaning the Covana.

Every covana is carefully sealed with a protective layer that helps prevent damage from UV rays. This seal means your covana can stay beautiful for years, but it does require special attention when cleaning the surface. Unfortunately, cleaning products and detergents dissolve and destroy this seal, so we highly recommend using just water. A hose nozzle or wand can help apply some extra pressure if your covana is extra dirty.

Hot tubs are a lot of fun, but they do come with some necessary maintenance. Taking care of your hot tub cover will help protect your spa and make sure your covana works for years to come.
