At RnR Hot Tubs and Spas, we have the honour of helping many Calgary families find the perfect hot tub for their home. One concern that we hear often from these parents is whether it’s a problem if their kids accidentally swallow hot tub water. We understand why you’re worried, but while we wouldn’t recommend drinking hot tub water on purpose, we’re happy to say there are tools available to make your spa water as sterile as possible.

Clean Zone I harnesses the power of ozone in an automatic water purification system. Ozone (O3) is one of the world’s best, naturally occuring sanitizers. Unlike highly stable oxygen gas (O2), ozone has a third oxygen molecule that rips apart and destroys germs, viruses, and microbes of all types. Due to its effectiveness as a sterilizer and because it leaves no residue behind, ozone is used within the medical and scientific communities to safely decontaminate tools, preventing infections.

Clean Zone II utilizes the natural sterilizing properties of UV light. You likely already know that it’s important to wear sunscreen outdoors because the UV portion of the light spectrum can cause sunburns and even skin cancer. This is because the photons in UV light have a lot of energy. When this light shines on our skin, the energy is passed into our DNA causing damage.

Clean Zone II takes advantage of this very property in order to damage and kill bacteria, viruses, and other microbes. In fact, this same UV technology is used throughout the world to sanitize drinking water. And don’t worry about clean zone II giving your kids a sunburn! All of the UV light is contained, making Clean Zone II completely harmless to people.

Clean Zone I and Clean Zone II are unconditionally safe for you and your family, but they are lethal to the microscopic life that make people sick. Together, these two technologies kill 99.9% of all microbes. And thanks to their combined super effective purifying, you’ll also be able to use fewer chemicals in your spa to maintain safe, crystal clear water. That means less money spent on maintenance and—if your child does accidentally swallow some hot tub water—less chemicals in their belly.

It’s important that you always talk to your kids about both the fun and dangers of hot tubs. Spas are a fantastic addition to most families, but they need to be treated with respect. Your children should know whether they’re allowed to use the hot tub without a parent, and they should understand that they shouldn’t drink hot tub water on purpose. But if (when) they do end up with a little spa water in their mouth, it’s nothing to worry about — thanks to your smart, preemptive thinking and clean zone I and II.

Come into RnR Hot Tubs and Spas today to find the perfect family spa that comes fully equipped with Clean Zone I and II, and don’t miss out on our March specials!
