If you’ve been partying hard during the last few summer months, your body is probably telling you it’s time to slow down. Summer is a great time to be social and partake in numerous festivities, but it’s also important to listen when your body starts telling you, “Enough is enough.”
At RnR Hot Tubs, we firmly believe in the healing powers of prolonged soaks in warm water. The right hot tub can work wonders when it comes to ridding your body of toxins and helping you feel fit and healthy heading into winter.
Detoxifying your body is a great first step to getting back on your regular fitness regimen as the weather cools down. It can be hard to find the energy to work out when you haven’t necessarily been feeding your body the healthy fuel it needs.
When your body isn’t getting proper nutrition, those nagging little aches and pains will keep you from leading the active lifestyle you desire. If you’ve fallen off your normal fitness routine a bit this summer, here are a few key ways in which you can use your hot tub to help your body detox:
The Pre-Soak Exfoliation Stage
Before you actually lower yourself into your hot tub, it’s important to do a little prep work. Washing, or at least rinsing, in the shower before getting in the tub will not only keep the tub clean, but it also helps prepare your skin for maximum detoxification.
Using a loofa or coarse washcloth, scrub skin from head to toe. This will remove dead skin and open your pores so that, when you do get into your tub, the warm water will, in essence, coax the toxins from your body.
Wet Sweats
Although you might not feel as though it’s taking place, at least in the sense you’re normally accustomed to, your body will begin to sweat as you sit in the hot tub and your core temperature rises. Many of the harmful toxins in your body will be removed, through your sweat, during this process.
Interestingly, the warm waters of your tub also stimulate detoxification through the kidneys, liver, colon, and lungs by “inducing lymphatic flow, improving circulation, and calming inflammation.” The skin is not the only organ through which toxins can be eliminated from the body, although it is the largest and most prominent.
Additives
You can also encourage detoxification by adding certain substances to the water. While you may not wish to do so if you won’t be draining, cleaning, and refilling your tub in the near future, adding Epsom salts to your tub can increase the effects of your detoxification process.
The Importance of Hydration and the Benefits for Sleep
When soaking in your hot tub for an extended period of time, as mentioned earlier, your body’s core temperature will rise and you’ll begin to sweat. It’s important to replace the fluids you’re losing by drinking ample water before, during, and after your soak.
If you’ve been burning the candle at both ends all summer, you’re probably feeling a bit sleep-deprived as well. Soaking in your hot tub just before heading to bed helps your whole body relax and promotes deeper, more regenerative sleep.
At RnR Hot Tubs, we want to help you get the most out of your hot tub by providing simple tips for proper use. If you’re considering purchasing a new hot tub for the purpose of detoxifying from all that summer partying, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 403-203-0860 today!
